Vinyl records are very much well love by audiophiles. They had been honest about their passion that vinyl discs carry more weight than any other music storage. We all know that vinyl records are made of polyvinyl materials.
Let’s take a look on how to care for our vinyl records which is mainly made of polyvinyl materials. Polyvinyl materials are so dominant in the early fifties. To clean vinyl records it should be 50/50 isopropyl alcohol solution or denatured alcohol and distilled water.
Remember alcohols which has a 70 percent mixture is damaging to the vinyl records. Alcohol is water soluble and leaves little or no residue. Even a Johnson and Johnson’s Baby Bath, can be used in small amounts with water with no rinsing necessary.
A soft, clean washcloth, wiping in circular motion with the grooves is the best thing to apply on the process of cleaning the records. Remember that when cleaning take off your finger rings or watches because it might do accidental scratching that might damage your records.
Dirty covers and labels are best left alone. If they have plastic covers or laminated, has a glossy outer covering, you can use a damped cloth to clean them.
You can even remove the marks on the cover by using a rubber eraser. A hair spray or a lighter fluid can even delete those pen marks. If you can’t erase them you can at least apply sticker on the areas affected. Just stick the sticker on the affected area, scratch a little then peel the sticker slowly. Through this process the heat breaks down the adhesive and makes it softer and easier to remove sticker and all without a great risk of damaging the cover or sleeve. The Sticker residue can be removed with most citrus-based cleaners or lighter fluid (naphtha).Remember, this process will only work well on glossy covers.
The growing interest of keeping vinyl records increased in numbers and the sales of vinyl records cleaning solution increases too. And right now, there is confirmed evidence that vinyl records are really changing the landscape of the music scene.
