Mind you, this is not a definitive list. That would be almost impossible -- not to mention being an unconscionable act of critical hubris. It's all a matter of individual taste what the best records of the year might be but 2008 was a good year for records not matter what the genre. With the CD market slumping like a drunk at the end of a wild party, vinyl record sales continue to climb. In its most recent issue Razorcake Magazine reported that 2007 LP sales were up 15.4% over the previous year and judging by all the new albums jostling for dollars in the few remaining record stores, those numbers will only continue to soar. These are just a few of the records that gave me particular joy in 2008. You'll find a variety of influences: punk rock, mod, folk rock, electronica, psychedelic, '60s garage and garage pop.
