Vinyl Records are truly amazing. They are great in style and substance. They are black and shinny things. In fact if you shine your records, you will really see your face reflecting on the disc. By the way you have to take care of your vinyl records with utmost care. Let’s take a look on how to care for our vinyl records which is mainly made of polyvinyl materials. Polyvinyl materials are so dominant in the early fifties. To clean vinyl records it should be 50/50 isopropyl alcohol solution or denatured alcohol and distilled water.


Avoid using 70 percent alcohol solution because its damaging to vinyl records. Alcohol is water soluble, thus leaving a little or no residue. You can also use a Johnson and Johnson’s Baby Bath with small amounts of water and of course with no rinsing necessary.


Use a clean soft washcloth then use it to wipe the grooves in circular motion. Remember that when cleaning take off your finger rings because it might cause some scratches to vinyl records. Dirty covers or record sleeves are best to leave alone. Maybe you can remove the marks on the cover by using a reliable rubber eraser.


If you encounter some pen marks, a lighter fluid or a damp cloth with a little sprinkle of hair spray can clean them. There is also one technique that can eliminate pen marks is through the use of a masking tape. Place the masking tape on the affected area, applying it like a sticker. Then slowly scratch the masking tape over the affected surface. The sticker residue will stick on the sticker and no more pen marks. Wow!


These are great tips in preserving your vinyl records. How about storing these vinyl records, do you think your knowledge is enough? Vinyls don’t like ultraviolet rays, these vinyl records too don’t like to be wet, so please avoid storing your records on places that are flood prone. Humid places for store rooms are not good because these places are frequented by fungus. Moreover, avoid places that are too hot, because they will melt.
