How did Toto Band Came to be known as TOTO?

The new group started on the late 1970s, this was during 1978, people from studio records who had been known to collaborate with popular artists like Miles Davis, Larry Carlton, Chicago, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Quincy Jones, Paul McCartney, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Lionel Richie, and many more had grouped together to form a new band named --TOTO. Actually when all the materials are ready for recording. The group never knew about how will they call their group. Jeff Porcaro meanwhile had been noting their demo tapes TOTO just to distinguish themselves from other bands. Since all of them had commitments to other stars or bands.

The band is so famous even in Japan, because their name is one of Japan's famous Toilet bowls. In Africa, TOTO band doesn't have to market it that much, because their name is a slang for Vagina. Funny how these group's band name was. Then their hit single Africa was so memorable to many people especially from the Dark Continent. Their most successful album is the TOTO IV.

Of course no need to show the TOTO version of Africa. Only Japan will do.

Then after their smash hit TOTO IV. Bobby Kimball left the band due to irreconcilable differences. This was the time that the band is experiencing a sudden U Turn of fame. They had a hard time duplicating the success of TOTO IV album.
