How Stevie Wonder Loss his Eyes

Poverty and much poverty will really be present on the family of Stevleand Hardaway Judkins. It was 1960s then. His mother had left his irresponsible father. She tended to bring food to the plates on each of her 6 children by working a lot of odd jobs in Detroit. As the 3rd child, Steveland, born blind, but showered with musical talents was born in Saginaw, Michigan in 1950 to Calvin Judkins and Lula Mae Hardaway.

By age 7 he had the desire to play the organ, then at age then he mastered the keys. He played by listening, he cannot seem to see the notes but has the ability to play music by ear. When he was at aged 11, he was discovered singing outside a street corner by a relative of The Miracles' Ronnie White. He was introduced to White then White brought the young Stevie to Motown Records big boss that gushed on the talented blind boy. “Oh, boy, he is a wonder. “, says the big boss. This made him known as Little Stevie Wonder at that time.

How come that he was born blind?

Stevie Wonder is a product of premature birth. His blood vessels at the back of his eyes did not reach the front, and an aborted growth spurt caused the retinas to separate. This is commonly called retinopathy of prematurity, or ROP. This exacerbated on the oxygen pump in his incubator but this is not the cause of his blindness. It is just that he is too early to come out with a premature set of eyes.
